BABY BERTHS : A WELCOME INNITIATIVE

pic : idina.com internet In a joint effort of Lucknow and Delhi divisions, Northern railways have introduced foldable ‘baby berth’ to facilitate mothers traveling with their infants. The feature has been introduced on the occasion of Mother’s day. WHAT ARE THESE BABY BERTHS? Two main berths of the Lucknow Mail, which runs between Delhi and Lucknow, were fitted with foldable berths that are 770 mm in length, 255 mm in width, and 76.2 mm in height to accommodate infants. These berths provide additional space for parents to accommodate children who might be too young to be left unsupervised on a single regular berth. The berth comes fitted with a stopper in order to keep the children from falling off during travel. As this initiative is still in its testing phase, there’s no provision for booking these berths for women travelling with infants. The Railways might make a related announcement in the future if the facility is launched in all trains. BABY BERTHS - A STEP TOWARDS DIGNITY AND RESPECT . this new design, was not exactly well-received on the internet due to the impractical execution. A bunch of people took to social media to point out the flaws in the design, and in the exclusion of mothers from the process of executing this idea. however on a larger side, So far, the feedback on social media has been positive with many applauding the Railways for this project. One Twitter user commented that both mother and child would be able to sleep comfortably, while another hoped that the Railways would continue innovating as per the needs of passengers. As a Doctor and lactation counsellor I beleive this is a great innitiative that must keep going on , it must be introduced across country in all railways . this is a step to ease women sufferings .
NOW HERE ARE SOME FEW TIPS TO BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION BEFORE YOU MAKE A TRAVEL IN TRAIN WITH YOUR BABY : Prepare Well For Your Baby’s Feeding Making sure the baby eats well on a train journey can be another massive challenge. If you are breastfeeding (or formula feeding), make sure you carry all your feeding equipment with you – bottles, steriliser, pumps, feeding pillows, bibs, and covers. Pack All These Essential Items For Your Baby: It doesn’t matter if the trip is going to last 2 days or 2 weeks – Travelling by train with baby means you need to pack essential items for the journey, aside from things you will need after reaching the destination. Prepare and Carry a First-Aid Box For Your Baby This is a must – keep your baby’s first-aid box ready well in advance and never forget to take it along. As a rule, the box should have medicines for fever, cold, congestion, ear infection, nasal saline drops, wipes, thermometer, antiseptics, bandages and cotton. Keep the doctor’s phone number handy (and added as a paper slip in the box) in case you need to get in touch during the journey/trip. REFERENCES The Hindu, parentingFirstcry
